CR Update March 13, 2006
The pub is growing. People are coming. This past weekend Joe had 15-20 people each night. There were several different groups of patrons. Everyone seems to like the draft beer, the pub, and our spectacular site. Joe has rented our guest houses even though they are barely ready. Our pool is fully functioning--People are swimming and we have a pool maintenance person who comes twice per week. Joe, who doesn’t swim, has started spending some time in the water. He still wants a bridge and that is one of our goals. There are still kinks to work out and I don’t think we want the mini-resort to be much bigger than this until we have a smoother operation.
The puppies are doing well. The mother and the whole litter had some kind of skin disease. John’s gardener took care of them for awhile and Joe took them to a vet last week. Now the issue will be how they like the cats and vice versa. Joe tells me the cats are spooked.
I am still in California. My job is great. I was very lucky to find a job and apartment which I like. It is good to be here in many ways but I also feel like I have been away and now it is time to go home—I’m sure the next 9 weeks will go by fast. There are a lot of travel nurses here—from the South and Midwest where the salaries are lower and they do not have nurse to patient ratios like they have here. My long range plan is to come back for 13 weeks twice/year for the next 2 years. This will give us time to get a better footing in Nosara and coming to the Bay Area on a regular basis is no hardship.
Mark and Cheryl from New Orleans are visiting Joe. They brought Mardi Gras beads which I’m sure were a big hit. There is a couple from South Carolina staying in one guest house and a young woman from Texas will be in the small Tico house soon. Joe had a 2nd batch of draft beer delivered this week –not an easy project to execute in Costa Rica. He also bought a gas grill so people can do their own barbeque when they come to the pub. The pub is working... slow and steadily building.
Stay in touch.
