November 2007- NYC to CR

November 2007

I am leaving in a few hours. Sorry I did not get to say goodbye to everyone but I expect I will be back to NYC next year. I wrote a song which got me through the last few weeks. Here it is:

NY to CR Nov 2007- My song—the tune is like a lament, I think.

There‘s a chill in the air but I don’t care--I’m going home
To mi esposo y mis gatos y mis perros
I’ve been away too long and it is wrong but we need the money
And soon I will be in Costa Rica with my honey

We lived in Massachusetts --we had a ball
Then we moved to Costa Rica to have it all
We have a house and a pub and a million dollar view
And almost enough money to make the dream come true

But for now I have to work in New York City
People are great but the air’s stale and gritty
Lots to do everywhere you turn
And everyone seems to have money to burn

But soon I’ll be back on my mountain
Where happiness bubbles up like a fountain
All of creation is in our view
A place to be, with little you have to do

So as winter comes I pack to leave New York City
Heading south where it’s warm and pretty
Its time to be back with my honey
And for now we have enough money

Joe was bit by a feral cat in our yard in Nosara and has a nasty wound. A bad rainy season with roads and bridges washing out added to the complications. He was finally able to go the doctors, was prescribed antibiotics, codeine, and a diuretic. Our gardener and his wife stayed with Joe for 3 weeks-- his leg is improving and I am back soon.

The good news is that we have ale. Our new brewer, we hope, Gabriel, made us an amber ale. We call it “Red Paw Amber” named after the red dust that the dogs track everywhere. The ale was quite good, Joe said, but there is little business now because of the rain. In November, the rains stop, the skies are clear blue, the roads are good and planeloads of visitors come. Going from a city with super-infrastructure to a remote area with little infrastructure will be an adjustment—an adjustment I am looking forward to.
Write, stay in touch, Love Helena (and Joe)
