CR update Oct 3, 2006
HI everybody.

I got my contract to return to San Leandro. The hospital where I will work is fairly chaotic organizationally but once I agreed to stay thorough Xmas, the doors opened.. Joe will be here alone, secure in the knowledge that there will be money to pay off the bills. I will be back December 30th and I imagine we will have a New Years party.

We now have a gun-a 9 mm Ruger. We never thought we would own guns but there have been several recent break-ins, and many people who live here have guns. Now we begin the work of using it. I like hitting the target but pulling back the slide is more difficult than it looks and I wear earplugs because of the noise. I am definitely not ready to face an intruder.

We had our Oktoberfest party this past weekend—Joe called it German Day since Oktoberfest is a Bavarian holiday and the Germans here are from other parts of the country. We had traditional German food—many people brought food for the grill and food to share. We had a bartender from Berlin, a German movie on our outdoor theater and a turnout of about 80 people—a diverse group—. It was a great party and we are thrilled so many different kinds of people came.
