CR Update- Thanksgiving 2006
I am still in the Bay area halfway through my assignment. This is a great area and I have several friends here. I went up to the wine country the other day and I look forward to going again tomorrow to join my friend Anne and her friends for their annual four day Thanksgiving weekend.
Joe is in Nosara keeping the pub going. He had 20 people the other night and did well despite being up till 2am. He wants to hire a bartender but it is hard to predict how to hire staff since the peaks don’t follow a particular pattern. Please go to http://www.bbeoj.com/index.php/2006/08/09/pura-vida-caballos/ the blog of a group who visited us on a horseback tour when they were on vacation a few months ago—we thank them for their very flattering write-up of the Black Sheep Pub and for sharing their blog with us.
I am planning my next travel nurse job, likely to be in the northeast in April. The travel jobs now seem to be everywhere but CA. I am hoping to go to NY or CT. We are aiming for Joe to come to the states around the time of my next travel job—he will have been in CR two years so he will have big culture shock.
I am investigating grant opportunities to finance a mental health care program in Nosara—there is a big need, there is money available-- I have to learn how to apply for grants. If anyone can help me please let me know. I wrote an article on the local health care system in Nosara for the Nosara local paper and I will be sending them an article on either breathwork or yoga for the next issue-- I resume teaching Breathwork at the Yoga center in January.
Costa Rica is beautiful but being so close to nature can be scary. When I called Joe the other morning, he said “Brace Yourself”. He then told me that the wind was so bad the night before that it blew the roof off the house –an act of god, he said. John sent workers to fix it and Joe held out OK. He was without electricity for 40 hours. We are in the wilderness. I look forward to going home for New Years, having our first New Years Eve party and back to swimming every day. Please visit. Stay in touch. The roof is almost fixed. Love Helena and Joe
