Christmas 2006

CR Update Christmas 2006

I am now packing for my trip back to Nosara. I will bring back a ceiling fan which I was not able to fit last time, bottles of ale and Tequila, bullets which are referred to as “rounds” and a new projector since Ainsley knocked our projector off the table and broke it. I have information on my next possible job locations and also leads on finding grant money so I can do mental health work in Nosara.

I was fortunate to attend a few Xmas parties; the best part of having a job and friends here. I will be off to CR Dec 29th on an overnight flight where I will be in Nosara the next afternoon. Then, the next day, we have our first New Years Eve party in Nosara. Last New Year’s Eve, we drove around with Mark and Jenny, friends from the UK whom we met in Nicaragua, stopping at different parties—this year we look forward to being a host destination and we are hoping for a great party!! My friend Anne from CA and I decided we will toast each other at 10pm CA time which will be midnight in CR. Our family and friends in the northeast should toast us at 1:00 am, if you can remember. I cannot calculate the time for our friends in the UK and Europe but please think of us wherever you are.

Joe is doing GREAT with the pub. It doesn’t always feel great--recently people had so much fun that they started throwing each other in the pool. Joe got thrown in, his phone was in his pocket so it was destroyed--he was compensated for the phone and has established two new rules: No throwing people in the pool and last call will be at 1:30. I think we will have to do a quick sweep before the last person leaves—a couple of weeks ago when Joe went to turn off the lights he found a customer asleep. He put him in one of the guesthouses for the night. It looks like there will be a regular poker group coming up also so we may open another night for them. We may have a new bartender—it continues to be difficult to know when there is enough business to hire someone. We are still new and have to get our routine down.

Our new tenant Jim is teaching Frieda (one of our doggies) how to swim. I hear she is doing well. Her sister, Nina, is not interested--she has a crush on Ainsley the cat and she lovingly follows him around--it is a scream. The doggies continue to be destructive-they are one year old- last week they dug up and broke another water pipe!!

Joe tells me the weather is great--Warm, windy, beautiful. Come visit—you must want to come somewhere warm. I have a boogie board you can use and I am friends with some of the surf instructors. Take care and hope to see you in Jan, Feb or March.
Love, Joe and Helena
