NY to Nosara Oct 2010

October New York 2010

Back to Paradise tomorrow. I leave NY at 6am and will be on my terrace in Nosara that evening. My mind is scrambled as I try to wrap up everything here and say goodbye to everyone. In Nosara, the rains will be over the foliage will be green and Joe and I will be deciding how to run the pub in its last (hopefully) season. We will have a good ad campaign for selling the house at the beginning of the high season and we intend to enjoy every minute of our remaining time there.

Besides meeting wonderful people, the best part of NY was my writing classes. And, thanks to Betty Lynch, I am now a fan of the opera. We saw 'Tales of Hoffman' in French last week. I loved reading the translated lyrics on the mini screen on the back of the chair in front of me and the experience was like entering a dream world. My memoir classes were like group therapy—and I liked the structure of everyone taking turns. I have about 27 pages written about our experiences moving to Costa Rica and an outline—so far, the most popular scene is from our therapist's office in Boston. And people liked hearing about the descriptions of nature.

Joe was here for 17 days in August. We saw Million Dollar Quarter from third row orchestra seats, went to Brooklyn to hang with beer guru Alex Hall and Joe reconnected with Chris Hall a friend from Boston from twenty years ago. He went up to Boston and we spent several days in Rochester visiting Joe's family. Besides catching up with everyone, Joe enjoyed going to dollar stores, department and music stores buying things for himself and the house which are hard to get in Costa Rica. In my apartment, he spent his early mornings on the chairs in front of the laundromat down the street--no porches here on Broadway, the main street where I have been living in colorful Astoria.

I will likely be back next year. Even if we sell the house, I want to make sure we can afford to let my US nursing license go. People wont hire you without recent experience. And I am very lucky to have my niche at Beth Israel Hospital. So we will see. The upheaval of the move to Costa Rica is what got me into writing and going back and forth from NY to Nosara is stimulating.

Please help us sell the house. Tell your friends. If you find us a buyer we will give you a finders fee.

Come visit—it may be our last season in Nosara. San Carlos has hot springs and a volcano but no ocean.

Love Joe and Helena
